I grew up in Madison, Tennessee in the 40's and 50's. Served in the US Air Force, and then married a wonderful Madison girl. We've been married for 51 years and have three teenaged grandsons. I've always loved to draw, so I took the "Famous Artist Correspondence Course" in 1967 on the GI bill. I painted for a short while after completing the course, but a very busy lifestyle crowded it out, so I quit painting for 35 years. In 2008, after retirement and having more time to enjoy it, I began painting again by taking lessons with Charles Brindley at Monthaven Mansion. I had never painted a portrait until then, so I tried it first by painting our two Jack Russell terriers and then my self portrait. I found that painting people and dogs was what I loved to do, so I also studied with Christy Pilkington, a great portrait artist and our former neighbor and friend in Madison for many years. I've painted portraits as gifts of love to my family and friends, with a few commissioned portraits to cover the costs. What a great hobby!! And it will remain just a hobby. I'm through working for a living.
