Mary Miller-McNutt, a Southern lady, was raised out in the country in central Mississippi and Western Tennessee. She never saw the inside of an art gallery or museum until she was grown and living in Abilene, Texas. One day she saw an ad in the local newspaper for art classes and thought she should try it. The teacher was very nice and encouraged her to keep trying. That first class opened up a whole world of
possibilities, and she fell in love with oil paint. It’s still her favorite medium.
She visits art galleries and museums to study the work of the” Old Masters”. Art is a life-long
pursuit, and Mary reads art books and continues to seek out new instructors in order to hone her
talents as a realist painter. She has a studio in White House, TN. She exhibits
with Monthaven Art Society and the Art Guild of Sumner County. Her work hangs in many collections across the United States.
She recently returned from a trip to New Mexico with lots of reference photos and is painting some
of the beautiful scenes of Santa Fe, Taos and Albuquerque.
