Dolores Whitfield's art training began with classes at the Art Institute of Chicago when she was a child. She also took weekend classes and some workshops during the 1950's with a retired advertising art executive. As with many artists who have little formal training, Dolores considers herself largely self-taught. Whitfield exhibited and sold her artwork at an art colony at the Esquire Movie Theatre near downtown Chicago, IL. She also exhibited at all the art shows at Navy Pier while living in Chicago. In the 1970's she was producing portraits for sale at several flea markets. In the 1980's Dolores took classes in preparation for drawing portraits on site at Opryland Theme Park in Nashville. She has continued to do portraits and other artwork throughout her life. Ms. Whitfield currently makes her home in Hendersonville and is a member of Hendersonville Arts Council and a very active member of Monthaven Art Society. She is a dedicated and award-winning exhibitor in the MAS shows.
