Dillard's artistic focus is on marine landscapes and architectural studies from Southern Maine and Tennessee. He employs vibrant color, detailed structure, and an amazing sense of perspective. Adams was a mechanical engineering student at Vanderbilt University more than fifty years ago, when a drafting class awoke his passion for drawing. Detailing sketches of wheels, gears, and machinery revealed a natural technical aptitude. Upon retiring in 1998, he began to seriously pursue his interest in painting. Most of his artwork is oil on canvas, using photographic references. He does, however, especially enjoy plein air painting. Says the artist, "There is nothing as rewarding as sitting in the open air painting a landscape or boat in its natural surroundings." Dillard has participated in a number of exhibits and has had exclusive showings in several local businesses. He has been a juried selection for shows in York, Maine, and several times for TAL's Central South Exhibit, including their most recent National Exhibit. In October, 2009, he held his first one-man show at the Hendersonville Arts Council, selling nineteen of the forty-three paintings displayed. Mr. Adams holds memberships in the Tennessee Art League; the York Art Association, York, Maine; Hendersonville Art Council; and Monthaven Art Society. Commissions are accepted.
