Kathleen Haynes grew up on a farm in Castalian Springs, TN, in an historic house where her family lived for more than a century. Her fondest memories include haylofts, gathering eggs, exploring the woods & creek banks, and summer evenings on the porch listening to the sounds of night. Little wonder she feels such a deep connection with the earth.
Kathleen is a fan of plein air painting and can often be seen painting on country roadsides or trespassing in hayfields. Besides wild landscapes and animals, she especially loves to paint buildings which have a past. She finds it extremely rewarding to do commissions of country or historic homes. The recipients of two recent commissions made these comments, "Our children will fight over this some day." and "This painting will live in history."
The artist says of watercolor, her medium of choice... "The effects I create can be almost ethereal. Each time my brush touches paper, it's an emotional experience, a personal expression of my connection with life's lovely mysteries." She describes her style as "sloppy" while others call it "painterly." She doesn't consider a piece finished until she has dripped, poured, or thrown paint on some part of it. "A watercolor piece should show evidence that it was painted using WATER." says Haynes.
