Jerry Grubbs began painting after he retired in 2008, fulfilling a longtime dream.  He has studied with Charles Brindley, Annie Tagg, Joel Knapp, and most recently with Igor Babailov.

Jerry's landscape style has been compared to that of the Hudson River School painters, who are noted for their soft, romantic interpretation of nature.  His work has also been influenced by the French Impressionists, as well as by John Constable.

Grubbs says the following about his work:
"I try to capture the beauty of nature which is all around us because I feel there is a therapeutic benefit to be derived from viewing scenes of tranquility and peace.  The colors there and the way light can bring a scene to life are very rewarding for an artist.  I hope my paintings capture and convey that to the viewer."

Like many other Tennessee artists, Jerry Grubbs feels it is important to record the area scenery before it is developed and spoiled.  He finds it especially rewarding to depict rural landscapes.
