Monthaven Member's Work Selected for Book Cover

Monthaven Art Society member Henry Jones' painting, "Mercutio:  A Plague on Both Our Houses," (panel one of a triptych) was selected as the cover image for a book.  The book, GHETTO OF EDEN: The Poetic Battle between Humanity and Hip-Hop, was written by award winning journalist Zach William Mills.  GHETTO OF EDEN (ISBN: 0-9746797-1-2) was published by Pneuma Publishing International, Inc. (Pittsburgh, PA).

Jones' painting was exhibited at Monthaven in 2005 when he first became a member.  The piece depicts the struggle for hope and strength in Chicago's high-rise public housing residences -- "projects."

Congratulations Henry!!

Monthaven Art Society Welcomed Guest Speaker Christopher Scott Huffman

On January 22nd, the Monthaven Art Society was proud to have Christopher Scott Huffman as its guest speaker for the Members Meeting at the Monthaven Mansion in Hendersonville.

Entirely self-taught, Texas native Christopher Scott Huffman began his art training primarily by studying the great artists of the past: Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Titian and Rembrandt and the like. He developed and honed his artistic skills through a rigorous study of drawing, artistic anatomy and the multi-faceted elements of painting. His emphasis in training his students is primarily on learning how to see, a lot of which involves "un-learning" what we think we know.

A large aspect of his work is concerned with the fleeting effects of light and how that light is described in paint. In his portraiture the artist aims at not only capturing the likeness of the sitter, but his or her essence and personality as well.

The artist also teaches. Presently he conducts classes at Watkins College of Art & Design in Nashville, TN.

Christopher's works are housed in collections throughout the U.S., including Washington, D.C.; Virginia; New Jersey; Texas, Florida, and Tennessee--and in the Republic of China. He maintains his home and studio near Nashville, Tennessee and largely works on commissions for individual clients and designers.
